STEM Career Spotlight: Cybersecurity
Hector Sanchez, Sr. Manager of Cybersecurity
I have been with Kforce for over six years, since 2014.
I lead a team of experienced cybersecurity analysts and engineers that focus on making sure our environment is protected from internal and external cyber threats. Because Kforce handles a lot of personal data from clients and candidates, the work our team does is very important. It can be challenging at times due to the unknowns that come from working in this field, but it’s also very rewarding.
It’s hard to choose just a few things, but working with a great group of individuals and performing security investigations are the top two that come to mind. I approach performing security investigations as a puzzle where I put pieces together to understand what really happened and respond to different security threats, and I find that challenge exciting.
I saw the career opportunities within the cybersecurity field and thought that it was a great area to focus on. Also, I have always been interested in technology and detective work and I thought this was the best of both worlds.
Make sure you enjoy whatever field you choose, because work is easier when you love what you do. Also, never stop learning - keeping your skills sharp is important in STEM careers.
